Oakridge Ranch WMA Hosts Fifth Youth Hunt
Oakridge Ranch Wildlife Management Association (ORWMA) sponsored their fifth Texas Youth Hunt this past Nov 22 – 24. The Texas Youth Hunting Program (TYHP) was formed with the Texas Wildlife Association and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1996 to provide opportunities for youth to participate in hunting activities safely, legally, and ethically, while learning about the role landowners and hunters play in wildlife conservation.
Fifteen youth hunters, along with their guardians and four hunt masters camped out at the Oakridge Community Center. Nineteen deer and two hogs were harvested. Four hunters recorded their first harvest.
Hunters enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers Friday night, bacon, biscuits, and gravy on Saturday morning. Saturday night’s meal was barbequed chicken and sausage, sides, and plenty of homemade desserts. Sunday morning everyone enjoyed breakfast tacos.
Thanks to Hunt Masters Shirley and Harry Odell, David Sneed, and Harry Watson. Also, thanks to Katie Edwards, Colorado County Wildlife Biologist, Mark Lange Senior Wildlife Biologist and Game Wardens Brent Whitus and Leanne Winkenwerder.
I am so proud of our community for coming together to support this event. So many people donated their time, talent, an treasure to make this event happen. I cannot even begin to list everyone involved. And I wouldn’t want to make anyone mad if I left their name off the list. We had people that donated food, money, deer blinds, their time to set up, tear down, clean up, sight in guns, help skin deer, cooks, and servers who made all those great meals and don’t forget all those great desserts. Thank you to Vernon, Ricky and Angie for spearheading.
Thanks again to everyone in the Community. You make this a great place to live.
