ORWMA MEETING MINUTES

September 26, 2026

OLD BUSINESS

· Previous Minutes– last minutes in May 2026 - approved

· Treasurer’s Report – Larry not here. Vernon provided report.

BOARD OFFICER REPORTS

· President (Vernon Wallace) –

· 1st Vice-President (Steve Jaap) – good presentation at doe meeting. Some still not paying dues on time. Bert to look up setting up online payments for dues.

· 2nd Vice President (Jerry Rogers) – will report under Whitetail

· Treasurer’s Report (Larry Carroll) – not here, Vernon provided report

· Secretary (Angie Peters) – sent email about TPWD Youth Hunt

COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON REPORTS

· Events Chairperson (Stacy Frudenberg) – not here.

· Habitat Chairperson (Bert Stiplecovich) – upcoming seminars. Vernon requested Screw Worm presentation (mid October 10 and 17). Astronomy Club give presentation in winter time (December 19, 4:00 pm). Bert to ask if Astronomy Club could come out for Youth Hunt and set up November 21. Butterflies in January. Turkey seminar in February 2027.

· Predator Chairperson (Doug Mason) – not here

· Whitetail Chairperson (Jerry Rogers) – Will send out deer checkers packet and deer checkers list. October 3 deer season starts (does with rifles, bucks with bows). Acorns are falling.

· Birding Chairperson (Jean Stiplecovich) – not here.

· Turkey Chairperson (David Konarik) – would like to have a turkey seminar, Bert to set up for February.

· Communications Chairperson (Angie Peters) – Website update, no update.

NEW ITEMS

· Survey – received about 9. Need to change to social events and not prize money. Keep gumbo as fundraiser because need the income. Will cancel scholarship.

· Insurance – due October 10. Vernon to talk to new agent.

· Youth Hunt – Doug’s group will do cooking. Vernon to ask if kids can use their own doe tags. No more than 15 youth. Vernon has 15 blinds. He would like 3 more and thinks these are coming. Need 2 loads of dirt to spread and fill in the front area where people will camp. Bert to get price for 2 loads from Heller. Ricky will spread it.

· Fall Seminars – see Upcoming Events

· Proceed with beautification of Oakridge sign at community center including rocks, lighting and drought resistant plants. Steve Witste came up with design.

· Hats and Shirts – actual price was twice as much as thought.

UPCOMING SEMINARS:

  • October - Screw Worm presentation (mid October 10 and 17).

  • November 21 - Astronomy Club could come out for Youth Hunt

  • December 19 - Astronomy Club give presentation in winter time and site visit

  • December group Christmas party with VFD and ORIA

  • January 2027 - Butterflies

  • February 2027 - Turkey

  • Want turtles, snakes, spiders, scorpions
